Information on Bariatric Bypass Surgery

Obesity causes health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc. Bariatric surgery, like any other, also carries some risks and complications, but the risk of obesity is much greater than the risks of bariatric surgery.

In a support group at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, Lori Silverman said that in the past seven months has lost 48 kgs. Mrs. Silverman, 42, weighed 138 kilograms and is expected to reach the 54 kgs weight. One by one, other members of the support group told similar victories: 64 kgs in 4 months, 39 in 3 months, etc. Many kilos lighter, more clapping, more cheers testimonies of people who thanks to treatment of weigh lose, no longer need medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart complications, arthritis or gout. Some have been able to fit in the seats of the cinema or aircraft, of bending and putting own shoes, after several years.

All these achievements are not due to any diet. These people, who previously had morbid obesity, have tried and failed with all diets that have been invented so far.

Extraordinary transformations in the lives of these people have been through surgery, but not liposuction, which removes only a few kilos, but gastric bypass surgery in which cut most of the stomach to achieve a decrease in the amount of food they can eat, and rearranges the small intestine to reduce the amount of calories that your body can absorb. The surgery, which can be done in different ways, is known as bariatric surgery, a term that means treating overweight.

This procedure, which is becoming more popular, reflects the increase in obesity and the failure of diets, exercises and weight loss drugs. In 1990, 44% of Americans were overweight, now, more than half of Americans suffer from it.

About 15 to 35% of American adults use some diet, and spend between $ 30 and $ 50 billion a year trying to lose weight. It is estimated that 3 to 5% of the population in the United States, at least 8 million people, over half women, are morbidly obese.

Obesity is one of the worst health problems in America. Seriously increases the risk of diseases, which are among the leading causes of death in the country, including diabetes, heart disease, respiratory problems and some cancers.

Theories point to several factors of obesity from the traditional to the sedentary lifestyle and fast food intake. But no matter what the cause of obesity, experts have been forced to accept that for most patients, diet, exercise and weight-loss drugs simply do not work.

Surgery is a drastic step, which involves all the pain and risk of any large abdominal surgery. Makes people change their eating habits radically, make them sick if they eat more and may be a risk of nutritional deficiencies for life.

But it’s still works. Unlike any drug or diet, surgery produces significant weight loss and long term in most patients. Many people lose up to 50 kilos; some reach a normal weight, while others remain a little overweight.

The number of bariatric surgeries in the United States has doubled 20 thousand in 5 years ago to 40 thousand at present. About 80% of patients are women, mostly young adults, but some surgeons accept patients over 60 years, and some even operate on teenagers. There are instances where all family members performed bariatric surgery. Diets, exercise or weight-reducing medications are not effective for everyone. Goodbye Obesity is the treatment for you, which manages to reduce weight and improve your overall health.

  1. Someone here at work had it done. The results were amazing. She went from huge to tiny almost overnight. She ended up quitting and getting a job elsewhere. I have no idea how she's doing now. I can't imagine having it done, but as they say, you can't judge a person till you walk a mile in their shoes.
